What Do Foam Rollers Actually Do?

Alex Hutchinson looks at a recent "meta-analysis of 21 different studies on foam rollers and the closely related roller-stick self-massage devices." As always, he delivers a reasoned overview and concludes with "basically a big shrug" where others might force a binary verdict. Not too long, it's worth a read:

Placebo by the looks of the early science, and in my empirical usage. But for 30 or 40 bucks for a decent roller, it's a cheapish placebo, so in light of the risk/reward scale, I say "try it".
